Rangers continue their dominance of Sabres

Mats Zuccarello had a goal and two assists, and the visiting New York Rangers edged the Buffalo Sabres, 4-2, after nearly blowing a three-goal lead Tuesday night.

J.T. Miller sealed the victory with a backhander into an empty net with a minute left. Derrick Brassard and Jesper Fast also scored for New York, which extended its winning streak over Buffalo to nine straight games and has gone 13-2 in their past 15 meetings.

The Rangers haven’t lost to the Sabres since a 3-1 decision March 12, 2013.

Blue Jackets 5, Red Wings 3 — Cam Atkinson scored twice in the third period, including an empty-netter with 17.5 seconds left, and Boone Jenner had a goal and an assist for Columbus.

David Clarkson and David Savard also scored for the Jackets, and Joonas Korpisalo made 32 saves.

Atkinson’s empty-netter with 17.5 seconds left secured the win.

Tomas Tatar and Andreas Athanasiou scored 46 seconds apart late in the third to pull Detroit within 4-3. Darren Helm thought he’d tied it less than a minute later, but the puck careened off the post behind Korpisalo.

Justin Abdelkader also scored for Detroit, and Jimmy Howard made 27 save

Hurricanes 4, Senators 3 — Rookie Jaccob Slavin scored in the fourth round and Cam Ward made 21 saves to give Carolina its first shootout victory of the season.

Jeff Skinner scored twice for the Hurricanes, including one with 0.2 seconds remaining to force overtime.

Islanders 2, Penguins 1 — Anders Lee scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period, and Jaroslav Halak stopped 31 shots before leaving late in the third period with an apparent injury as surging New York beat Pittsburgh.

Canadiens 4, Stars 3 — Alex Galchenyuk got his second goal of the game 1:59 into overtime as Montreal ended a four-game skid.

Predators 4, Jets 2 — Craig Smith scored twice to help Nashville hang on against Winnipeg. Colton Sissons had a goal and an assist while Ryan Johansen also scored for the Predators.

Sharks 3, Oilers 0 — Logan Couture scored a pair of first-period goals to give San Jose an insurmountable lead over visiting Edmonton.

Joe Pavelski also scored and had an assist for the Sharks.
