Couple convicted over forced labor

HOUSTON— A Houston-area couple who pleaded guilty to federal charges related to forcing a Nigerian woman to take care of their home and five children without pay for two years was ordered to pay her more than $121,000 in restitution. Chudy Nsobundu, 57, and his wife Sandra Nsobundu, 49, also were sentenced Friday in a US district court to seven months in jail and seven months of home confinement, plus three years of probation. Court clears sheriff of unlawful search

MILWAUKEE — A federal judge dismissed unlawful search claims against former Milwaukee sheriff David Clarke made by a man who was detained at an airport after he shook his head at the law enforcement officer during a flight. But the judge agreed Friday to allow Daniel Black to pursue his claim that Clarke harassed him by calling him a ‘‘snowflake’’ in a Facebook post and making a retaliatory threat. (AP)

Suit says Weinstein tried to foil inquiry

SAN DIEGO — A lawyer who represented actress Paz de la Huerta has filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein and a former New York state prosecutor, alleging that they coordinated in a scheme to get the actress to drop her sexual misconduct complaint against the movie mogul. Aaron Filler’s firm, Tensor Law, filed the lawsuit Friday against Weinstein, his company, and attorney Michael Rubin. Rubin and a spokeswoman for Weinstein denied the allegations. (AP)
