The double murder trial of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was postponed Tuesday because of the winter storm.

Suffolk Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Locke told jurors Monday that he would suspend the trial for a day after learning that Boston was going to get hit with a snowstorm.

Earlier Monday, he asked jurors to discuss during the morning recess if they wanted to come in for a full day of testimony Tuesday, a half day, or not at all.

A male juror later told Locke that no one wanted to sit for a full day Tuesday, and only a few people were willing to hear evidence for a half day. Most jurors preferred the option of skipping court altogether Tuesday.

“So we have a hung jury,’’ Locke said, prompting laughter from many in the courtroom, including Hernandez, who smiled widely at the defense table.

Hernandez, 27, has pleaded not guilty to charges of killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in a drive-by shooting in Boston’s South End in the early morning hours of July 16, 2012.

He is already serving a life sentence for the June 2013 fatal shooting of Odin L. Lloyd. The state’s highest court will automatically review his first-degree murder conviction in that case at a later date.

Snow forced the postponement of the Lloyd trial, which was held in Bristol Superior Court in Fall River, for several days during the devastating winter of 2015.
