Remember that famous TV special from Valentine’s Day 1962, when first lady Jacqueline Kennedy took CBS’s Charles Collingwood on a tour of the White House? In her dignified, girlish voice, Jackie showed off a renovation she’d launched to return the home to its historic roots. All three major networks, NBC, ABC, and CBS, aired “A Tour of the White House With Mrs. John F. Kennedy,’’ which drew 80 million viewers.

On Friday night, Fox News will offer a TV special that seems born to be compared and, mostly, contrasted with Jackie’s tour.

The show, airing Friday at 10 p.m. and repeated Saturday and Sunday nights at 8, is called “OBJECTified: Donald Trump.’’ It’s a tour of the objects in Trump’s home, including trophies, photographs, and letters, and the president-elect (who was a candidate when the show was filmed) will offer up personal stories behind each of them. For instance: “Here’s a marionette, which was given to me by Vladimir Putin.’’ The press release promises us a side of Trump “that has rarely been seen before.’’

The release also promises that the show will go into Trump’s desire to have taken a very different path: His “unfulfilled dream of becoming a Hollywood movie mogul.’’

The tour will be conducted by Harvey Levin. For those who don’t know, he is the founder of TMZ, that entertainment news site and TV show that stalks down and harasses celebrities, for those who enjoy watching Blac Chyna or Charlie Sheen leave a restaurant or stand at the airport. It’s natural pairing, in a way, as both TMZ and Trump have found their ways to national success by willfully ignoring the rules.

If TMZ wants in on White House coverage over the next four years, this fluff piece — the first pairing of Fox News and TMZ — seems like the right way to start. Access granted — at least until a TMZ cameraman gets footage of a few tax returns hiding in the Trump Tower garbage heap.
