This house never lost touch with its roots as a cottage even after it was topped with a second story and the summertime stopover became a dwelling for all seasons.

And like the home itself, the neighborhood, a draw because of Stetson Pond, has transformed into a year-round community.

Like a throne in a royal hall, this house sits regally in the center of its rectangular lot and is surrounded by carefully tended white and purple lilacs, rose of Sharon, and wild hydrangeas. From the driveway, which parks four, the side entrance opens into what was once a screened room but is now a summery-yellow dining/office space with a slider connecting to the back patio.

The dining/office area opens into the recently updated kitchen, which features a double sink underneath a sizable pass-through to the dining area, a ceramic-tile floor, granite counters, a breakfast bar, and white cabinets, some with glass fronts. Off the kitchen is the home’s sole full bath, which offers a single vanity, a long counter, and a tub setup with a shower and tile surround.

Opposite the kitchen is a bedroom that easily accommodates a full-sized bed. The room has a closet and one window.

A few steps from the kitchen is the living room, a square space with a working wood-burning fireplace. The room draws light from large windows on two walls. All of the home’s windows were replaced three years ago.

To the left of the fireplace is a small bedroom with two windows and no closet. To the right, there is a laundry room with space for a full-sized washer and dryer. The space connects to a small office that overlooks the backyard and is used as an artist studio.

The second floor is devoted to the master bedroom, a comfortable space created with the addition of a double-windowed shed dormer. There is a small nook near the bed, a closet, and an area for a dresser in front of the windows.

The home, which sits on a slab foundation on a 0.28-acre lot, does not have a basement. It offers a garden shed with an electricity hookup and is a short walk to a town-owned park with dock access to the pond. The property is 1½ miles from the commuter rail.

The listing agent, Kathleen Pizzella of Waterfront Realty Group in Duxbury, will hold an open house on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.
