Victims in Brighton shooting identified

Boston police on Sunday identified two men who were shot and killed in Brighton’s Oak Square this weekend. Wilfred Peters, 26, of Brighton, and Jeffrey Montaque, 27, of Cambridge, were shot near Faneuil Street and Brackett Street at about 12:41 a.m. on Saturday, according to police. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans said the two men were “clearly targeted.’’ In a Facebook message to a Globe reporter, Montaque’s brother, Uziela Montaque, described Jeffrey as a loving person. “There’s not too many words you can say about the love he showed everyone,’’ he wrote. “Everyone that knows him knows he didn’t deserve this and I’m praying justice gets served.’’ Colin Johnson, who said he had worked with Peters at Allied Universal, said the two used to have thoughtful conversations about politics and race during their shifts. “He was such a nice guy so I couldn’t believe what happened to him,’’ Johnson said. “But I can’t imagine him being a situation that would end like this. It’s just horrible.’’ The shooting remains under investigation, police said.
