Forget poverty study — give the money to the impoverished

What a shame that millions of dollars are being given to Harvard University to study poverty (Metro, Oct. 13). Poor people have already been studied practically to death. We do not need yet another study, carried out by one of our wealthiest universities.

Put the money in the community. We know what is needed — real affordable housing, better schools in poor neighborhoods, better-paying jobs and training, more drug rehab centers, a fairer criminal justice system, and a real safety net for those who are impoverished or about to drop into poverty.
