Patriot Place in Foxboroughhas begun its annual“Summer Flicks’’ series, free showings of family-friendly films using an outdoor projector every other Wednesday through September. Upcoming screenings include “Minions’’ (above) July 13, “Finding Nemo’’ July 27, and “Aladdin’’ Aug. 10. The movies begin at sunset, but there will be other entertainment and activities for kids from 6 to 8 p.m. Lawn chairs and blankets are recommended for a more comfortable experience. This is the fourth year that Patriot Place has hosted the series.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts broke ground on a new employee garden at its Quincyoffices June 30. Built in conjunction with The Trustees, a nonprofit focused on conservation in Massachusetts, the garden is a space for employees to plant, harvest, and take home produce. Employees plan to use vegetables from the garden for an internal farmers market later this summer, with proceeds going to a Quincy charity. The company’s Hingham office started a similar garden last year, which saw 4,000 pounds of produce and participation from over 100 employees, according to Kyle Cahill, the company’s director of sustainability.
On June 22, the Easton Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Commonwealth Cleanersto celebrate the new chamber membership of the dry cleaning business, which opened March 19 on Foundry Street in North Easton. Store owner Ed Laffey’s family has been in the industry since his father started a dry cleaning operation in Rhode Island in 1946. Laffey said he hopes being a part of the business group will increase his visibility in the community and offer good networking opportunities. The store is open 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Sylvia’s by the Sea, a nautical-themed store selling clothing, gifts, and home decor, will occupy the PopUp at the Derby Street Shoppes in Hinghamfrom Monday, July 11, to July 31. Its hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sylvia’s by the Sea has permanent locations in Plymouth and Scituate. The store was chosen after recommendations from several customers, said Bill Hamilton, the shopping center’s general manager. The PopUp is a retail storefront hosting an array of businesses for a few weeks at a time.
The Westgate Mall in Brocktonwill gain three new businesses in the coming months. Hannoush Jewelerswill open a store in August. The company is headquartered in Springfield and has 17 locations across the state, including stores in Braintree, Taunton, and North Attleborough, with many more across the country. Charleys Philly Steakswill open in the food court, next to Sarku Japan, in October. A freestanding Starbuckswith a drive-through will open in the parking lot adjacent to Modell’s Sporting Goods. It is scheduled to open in the fall.
