comfortable —?and cool

Nic + Zoe built its reputation on its breezy day-to-night tunics and tanks, slimming knit sweaters that double as jackets, and cozy pants and leggings, and now the Natick-based women’s clothing maker does shoes. The brand launched 15 styles this spring with its hallmark philosophy in mind: comfort.

“Our foot beds have a nice amount of padding. There’s an ankle strap with elastic. For [open-toed shoes], there’s a small amount of knit around the foot opening, so it’s not just leather around your skin,’’ says senior merchandising director Zoe Chatfield-Taylor.

Her mother, Dorian Lightbown, founded the knitwear-focused brand in 2006 for women craving clothes that looked appropriate at work, dinner, and soccer practice. (The company is named after her kids, Nicholas and Zoe.) Like her versatile clothes, these shoes are designed for all-day wear. The tag line? “Make busy look good.’’

Choose from five categories: espadrilles, heels, sandals, sneakers, and wedges, ranging from $98 to $170. Heels are of particular interest: The stretchy, knitted pull-on Priya bootie, with a non-intimidating 2½-inch heel and a padded foot bed, is especially comfortable.

“I could go running in our heels. They feel like socks. It hugs your foot in such a nice way,’’ Chatfield-Taylor says.

There are also pull-on stretch sneakers with metallic color blocks and padded insoles, lace-free joggers, knit mid-heel pumps with elastic top lines to prevent constriction, and fringed block-heeled sandals with padded foot beds and adjustable straps. The styles are just edgy enough to look fashionable — but sensible enough to wear while running into day-care pickup with just a few minutes to spare.

“We see women of all ages, but they like color. She’s not afraid to stand out. But she values her time,’’ says Chatfield-Taylor. And her posture.
