Recent bird sightings as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society

Plum Island: Highlights from the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge included 47 American wigeon, 40 northern pintails, 30 green-winged teal, an American golden plover, four pectoral sandpipers, a black guillemot, an American bittern, 40 black-crowned night herons, a yellow-bellied sapsucker, a Philadelphia vireo, two common ravens, and one dickcissel.

Newburyport: Twelve Nelson’s and nine saltmarsh sparrows were spotted.

Haverhill: At Kenoza Lake, 24 green-winged teal, 225 ring-necked ducks, five ruddy ducks, a bald eagle, 32 killdeer, and a spotted sandpiper were sighted.

Marshfield: Reports featured an upland sandpiper, a warbling vireo, a chestnut-sided warbler, and three Nelson’s sparrows.

Concord: Reports from Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge featured 89 wood ducks, 27 American pipits, a fox sparrow, and a rusty blackbird.

Nantucket: Reports included two redheads, a yellow-crowned night heron, and a rose-breasted grosbeak.

East Boston: Ducks observed at Belle Isle Marsh Reservation included a blue-winged teal, a northern shoveler, and three northern pintails.

Manomet: Sightings this week featured a Bell’s vireo, a blue-gray gnatcatcher, and a Connecticut warbler.

Miscellaneous: Reports this week included two clapper rails and a common gallinule in Fairhaven; 98 northern saw-whet owls sighted in Lincoln and 21 sighted in Northbridge; a clay-colored sparrow at Millennium Park in West Roxbury; and a blue grosbeak in Middleton.
