Joined by his mother and father, Nancy and John, and his brother Andrew, Pete Frates and his wife, Julie, marked ALS Awareness Month with a fund-raising reception Monday at Nick Varano’s Strega Waterfront in the Seaport. The former Boston College baseball player who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2012 has been hugely successful in raising money to combat the disease. (He’s credited with creating the Ice Bucket Challenge, which went viral in 2014.) Among those who stopped by to lend their support was Suffolk Construction’s John Fish.
