Recent bird sightings as reported to the Mass. Audubon Society.
A mix of summer and winter birds turned up last week at Heard Farm in Wayland, including a yellow-breasted chat, a double crested cormorant, a Northern harrier, a ruby-crowned kinglet, a gray catbird, 15 brown-headed cowbirds, and 15 common grackles.
Saugus: At Plum Island, a king eider, 12 razorbills, two black-legged kittiwakes, two rough-legged hawks, and three yellow-rumped warblers were sighted.
Boston: A common raven, a winter wren, and a rusty blackbird were among sightings at Millennium Park in West Roxbury
Nantucket: At Miacomet Pond, two Northern shovelers were spotted. At the Milestone Cranberry Bog, there was a tufted duck at the Gut. At the Nantucket Field Station, there was a whimbrel and on Madaket Road, there was a white-crowned sparrow. On the West Sesachacha Trail, an orange-crowned warbler was seen.
Miscellaneous: Among sightings, was a canvasback at Kenoza Lake in Haverhill. At Great Pond in Randolph, a Barrow’s goldeneye and a double-crested cormorant were reported. At Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk, there was a common gallinule and in West Newbury, a sandhill crane. At the Canoe River in Foxborough, there was a northern shrike. In Royalston, there was a yellow-bellied sapsucker and 70 evening grosbeaks. In both West Boylston and Sterling, a pine grosbeak was reported.
