Senior forward Sagan Patarroyo-White’s strike in the 51st minute propelled the 10th-seeded Lexington High boys’ soccer team to a 1-0 win over Lincoln-Sudbury for the Division 1 North title Sunday night at Manning Field in Lynn.

In the first half, senior forward Hagop Kouchakdjian commanded the Lexington attack. Eventually, it was his diagonal run from midfield, cutting through the Spartans’ back line, and subsequent layoff to a patient Patarroyo-White in the right side of the box that resulted in the lone goal.

“[I tell my forwards], ‘If you’re not the one involved in the play, get somewhere you think the ball could end up and put it in the back of the net.’ [Patarroyo-White] read the ball, read the other runners, and said, ‘If it bounces here, I put it in,’ ’’ said Lexington coach Kevin Beaty.

The Minutemen had to deny an inspired Lincoln-Sudbury attack time and time again following the score. After a lunging save from senior goalkeeper Adrian Porras in the final minute, Lexington senior defender Alex Lerner slid in to block an empty-net rebound shot from junior defender Landon DeCesare-Fousek with his chest.

“Lerner knew it was his turn to step in and do what he had to do,’’ Beaty said. “He knew that he had to be in that position to make the other 10 players on the field better. [Lincoln-Sudbury] gave us a good battle, and we are a better team for it.’’

The Minutemen (14-5-2) will play Braintree (18-3-3) in a state semifinal Wednesday night at Manning Field.

Division 1 South

Braintree 6, Needham 1 — Seeking their first sectional title since 1981, the Wamps did not waste any time, seizing a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes to surge past Bay State Carey rival Needham at Milford High for their ninth straight win.

Senior forward Brian Carney scored four minutes after the opening whistle, collecting a pass on the right wing from senior captain Stefan Jameson and beating Needham keeper Andrew McNally to the far corner from 15 yards.

Four minutes later, junior forward Ryan Mangan (two goals) stole the ball from the Needham back line on the left side, split two defenders and curled the ball past McNally.

Mangan added another goal with two minutes to play in the first half to boost Braintree’s advantage to 4-1 entering the break.

“This is the most complete game we’ve played,’’ said coach Gary Burke, “and hopefully we’re not stopping there. We came out early, and after they scored, we made it 3-1 — we got the fourth goal, which was crucial. We didn’t let up. The defense played well, the midfield I thought played tremendous, and our forwards scored five out of six.’’

Senior forward Vik Zahopoulos netted two goals for the Wamps, including a header off a throw-in from junior midfielder Shane MacNeil in the 26th minute.

Vali TenBrook, a junior midfielder, scored the lone goal for the Rockets (13-4-7).

Braintree managed 14 shots, putting eight on target, and limited the Rockets to just shots on net.

Senior right back Jason Reynolds played a particularly feisty brand of defense, making two successful slide tackles in the game’s first 20 minutes to break up Needham’s offensive rhythm.

“Jason flies under the radar most games,’’ Burke said. “He was phenomenal tonight, definitely an unsung hero on our team. The back four, they’re tremendous, underrated. Jason has played this way all year long, and it was highlighted in a big game. He’s a guy who doesn’t get a lot of publicity, but us coaches appreciate what he does.’’

When asked how Braintree planned to celebrate, Burke remained low-key, indicating that his team was excited but also understood its toughest challenges still lie ahead.

“We’re going to get a bite to eat, then they’re going to get to bed early,’’ he said.

“Be ready for school in the morning.’’

Braintree suffered two losses in its first four games, but “the kids kept working hard, and here we are,’’ added the coach.

Division 4 North

Boston International 3, Manchester Essex 1 — The Lions leaned heavily on sophomores Jesus Batiz, Gerald Louis, and Helder DePina Vaz in hoisting the North crown at Manning Field in Lynn.

Four minutes in, Louis gave Boston International (17-1-3) a 1-0 lead, with Batiz assisting. DePina Vaz, the MVP of the Boston City League championship, delivered several point-blank stops to preserve the lead, including denying M-E senior Spencer Feuerbach late on a bid in close.

Junior Nelseen Gomes pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute before Manchester Essex (17-2-3) cut the lead in half on a free kick by Hay, with Cape Ann Baker Player of the Year Marco Kaper assisting.

A senior captain, Kaper transitioned from goalie to right back early in the second half to set up Hay.

But Boston International controlled possession well in the Hornets’ final third, opening up scoring opportunies.

“The whole idea is when we do that, we look good, and we don’t always do that in a game, for various reasons, but the focus is to play as a team,’’ Boston International coach Apolinario Barros.

With 10 minutes to play in regulation, though, Batiz took on and beat three defenders deep in Manchester-Essex territory before slotting home the game’s final goal. His stellar individual play put the game out of reach.

The Lions will play Cohasset in a state semifinal at Norwell High Wednesday (7:15 p.m.).

Division 4 South

Cohasset 5, Nantucket 0 — Cohasset coach Jim Willis wanted to make sure his squad wasn’t feeling any added pressure after a scoreless first half.

Three minutes into the second 40, Chris Longo calmed any frayed nerves, pushing his volley just over the head of Nantucket keeper Vainus Valentukevicius, the first of three goals for the sophomore to carry the Clippers (18-3-1) to the South title at Brockton High.

Willis said the first goal, one set up by a Mathias Loft free kick that was headed by Cam Pattison inside the box, “the nerves just seemed to evaporate.’’

Seven minutes later, Longo headed a volley past Valentukevicius for a 2-0 cushion. Midway through the second half, Longo scored off a throw-in from Liam O’Connell to complete his hat trick.

In the offseason, he and his teammates were motivated by their season-ending 2-0 loss to Nantucket in the South semis.

“I just wanted to make my mark on this game,’’ said Longo. “No matter your age, you have to do your job.’’

In the final 10 minutes, Cohasset closed out the win on goals by Pattison and Vladimir Tserlov.
