Medina Hockey traveled to Canton on Wednesday taking their perfect record to meet the unbeaten Jackson Polar Bears.

Jackson scored late in the first period to take the lead against Medina and when Medina got into penalty trouble, the Polar Bears converted a power play opportunity and took a 2-0 lead.

With only six seconds remaining in the opening period, Medina’s Ryan Cole found the net on an assist from Andrew Rini and cut Jackson’s lead in half. Rini then scored one of his own in the next stanza with assists from Cooper Schmit and Danny Beebe.

With the score all tied up, the game took a dramatic turn.

Just as one Medina player got finished being treated for a ligament injury to his hand, another Medina player was hit with an illegal head shot.

After a 25-minute delay, he was taken away by paramedics to be treated at the hospital.

With more on their minds than hockey, Medina never got back on track and gave up two goals in the third period to fall to Jackson 4-2.

On Saturday night, Medina was in Mentor to take on Team Audi for the second time this season.

Both injured players were in attendance in street clothes and the attitude of the team was noticeably more focused.

With this renewed motivation came an easy 9-0 win outshooting Audi 40-6.

Matt Jay had a big night scoring two and assisting on two others.

Cole and Danny Dzhubinskiy each scored two goals as well. Other goal scorers included Ben Schroth, Cal Parnell and Rini.

In support, Robbie Taylor had three assists, George Zimmerer and Patrick McGinty each helped on two and Cole, Parnell, Beebe and Schroth each had one.

Blake Forystek notched another win in goal completing his fifth shutout performance.

Medina’s next home game is Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8:40 p.m. against the Fremont Ice Wolves.
