The top-ranked Westwood High girls’ lacrosse team faced the biggest challenge of its young season Monday afternoon when it hosted defending Division 2 champion Norwell at Flahive Field in Westwood.

Westwood proved worthy of its label as the best team in Eastern Mass., streaking past fifth-ranked Norwell, 15-5, to extend its regular-season winning streak to 65 games.

Junior Haley Connaughton led the way for Westwood (4-0) with six points, scoring three of the game’s first six goals as the Wolverines jumped out to a 5-1 lead. She factored in five of Westwood’s eight first-half goals.

“She’s really one of our strongest attackers,’’ said Westwood coach Leslie Frank.

Andrea Meincke scored five goals for Westwood.

Westwood won its fourth straight and have outscored opponents, 63-12.

Cambridge Ringe and Latin track and field standout Brianna Duncan signed a letter of intent to compete at the University of North Carolina. Duncan is a seven-time state champion and helped the Falcons to the outdoor track All-State title in 2015. She garnered All-America honors in the indoor track season when she finished fifth in the nation in the triple jump, adding to a list of accolades that includes four appearances on the Globe All-Scholastic team (two indoor track, two outdoor track).
