Local Division 1 teams

BOSTON UNIVERSITY

■ Coach: Joe Jones (seventh season, 107-86).

■ 2016-17 record: 18-14 (12-6, second in Patriot League).

■ Probable starters: G Cedric Hankerson (9.6 ppg), G Cheddi Mosely (9.2 ppg), G Eric Johnson (4.1 ppg), F Nick Havener (5.3 ppg), F Tyler Scanlon (8.1 ppg).

■ Key reserves: G Will Goff (3.5 ppg), F Max Mahoney (5.4 ppg).

■ Outlook: The Terriers have a veteran squad as well as a solid core of young talent. Winning the Patriot League over a Bucknell team that returns all five starters will be a tough task, but Jones and Co. have been known to surpass expectations in conference play.

HARVARD

■ Coach: Tommy Amaker (11th season, 193-105).

■ 2016-17 record: 18-10 (10-4, second in Ivy League).

■ Probable starters: G Bryce Aiken (14.5 ppg), G Corey Johnson (8.2 ppg), G Justin Bassey (6.1 ppg), F Seth Towns (12.3 ppg), F Chris Lewis (7.8 ppg).

■ Key reserves: F Henry Welsh (3.2 ppg), F Robert Baker (2.8 ppg).

■ Outlook: The Crimson look to be the cream of the crop in the Ivy once again. With the talent in that sophomore class, including last year’s leading scorer Aiken, they very well may win their sixth league championship under Amaker and advance to their fifth NCAA Tournament in his tenure.

UMASS

■ Coach: Matt McCall, (first season, 48-18 at Chattanooga).

■ 2016-17 record: 15-18 (4-14, 12th in Atlantic 10).

■ Probable starters: G Luwane Pipkins (10.2 ppg), G C.J. Anderson (4.9 ppg), F Chris Baldwin (2.2 ppg), F Malik Hines (3.5 ppg), C Rashaan Holloway (10.4 ppg).

■ Key reserves: Khalea Turner-Morris (freshman) and Rayshawn Miller (1.0 ppg).

■ Outlook: You can chalk up McCall’s first season in Amherst as a rebuilding year in a deep A-10 conference. Donte Clark (12.6 ppg) and Dejon Jarreau (9.8) transferred out.

NORTHEASTERN

■ Coach: Bill Coen (12th season, 178-176).

■ 2016-17 record: 15-16 (8-10, sixth in Colonial Athletic).

■ Probable starters: G Vasa Pusica (transfer), G Devon Begley (9.7 ppg), G Bolden Brace (7.5 ppg), G/F Max Boursiquot (5.3 ppg), C Anthony Green (4.8 ppg).

■ Key reserves: G Shawn Occeus (5.4 ppg), F Jeremy Miller (7.4 ppg).

■ Outlook: Losing their top two scorers to graduation, the Huskies will need to find a new identity on offense. Pusica, a University of San Diego transfer and member of the Serbian national team, will help fill the void, along with Begley. Early-season tests against Stanford and Ohio State should give an indication of how the Huskies will compete this season.
