NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — A 13-year-old girl and a teacher who were shot in May at a suburban Indianapolis school will be the grand marshals for their community’s July Fourth parade.

Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear announced Saturday that Noblesville West Middle School student Ella Whistler and seventh-grade science teacher Jason Seaman have agreed to take part in the parade.

A 13-year-old boy is accused of shooting Seaman and Whistler on May 25.

Seaman was shot as he tackled the shooter in the school about 20 miles north of Indianapolis. Whistler’s family says she was shot seven times.

Ditslear said their role in Wednesday’s parade will give residents a chance ‘‘to show our love and support for them and everyone impacted as we continue to cope with the actions of that day.’’

In a separate development over the weekend, police in Ashburn, Ga., said eight people were shot at a nightclub but no one was killed.

The shooting broke out around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in Ashburn, about 160 miles south of Atlanta.

Officials are not sure if it happened inside or outside the nightclub.

The victims were take to hospitals and their conditions were not immediately available.

The Ashburn police are investigating with the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
