The sixth-ranked Boston College women’s hockey team recovered from a third-period deficit and scored three unanswered goals to defeat No. 10 Northeastern, 4-2, on Saturday at Matthews Arena.
After neither team managed to score in the opening period, Erin Connolly broke through for BC (10-3-3, 9-2-1 Hockey East) at 16:48 of the middle frame. However, the Huskies (10-4-3, 6-2-2) found their stride in the third period, as McKenna Brand netted a shorthanded score and Paige Savage added a goal to put the Eagles at a 2-1 disadvantage.
But just 24 seconds later, BC’s Tori Ann Miano scored to start the Eagles’ rally. Two minutes later, while on the penalty kill, Kristyn Capizzano scored the go-ahead goal. Kali Flanagan added the final strike at 17:37.
BC is 13-0-2 in its last 15 meetings with Northeastern dating to 2013.
BU 4, Princeton 3 — Mary Parker scored 37 seconds into overtime to give the Terriers (10-5-1) the win over the Tigers (5-6-1) at Walter Brown Arena.
BU’s Abby Cook forced overtime with a strike at 16:02 of the third period.
Minnesota Duluth 2, Harvard 1 — Sidney Morin notched the overtime winner at 1:51 after Duluth’s Ashleigh Brykaliuk tied it with 1:17 left in regulation, and the No. 4 Bulldogs (10-3-3) pulled out a win over the host Crimson (1-8-0).
Providence 7, Brown 3 — A hat trick by Blair Parent helped power the Friars (8-8-1) past the Bears (3-9-1) at Meehan Auditorium for the Mayor’s Cup. All three Brown goals came in the third period.
Merrimack 4, Yale 3 — The host Warriors (5-10-2) overcame two third-period goals by Yale’s Taylor Marchin to edge the Bulldogs (4-6-2). Mikyla Grant-Meris notched two assists for Merrimack.
Quinnipiac 3, UConn 2 — After the Huskies (8-5-3) bookended goals to end the first period and start the second, Melissa Samoskevich netted the winning goal just 18 seconds into the final frame to give the eighth-ranked Bobcats (11-4-3) the win.
Men’s hockey
Harvard 5, Bentley 2 — Alexander Kerfoot tallied four assists as the ninth-ranked Crimson (6-2-1) skated past the visiting Falcons (3-6-3). Harvard’s Ryan Donato and Adam Fox each registered a goal and two assists.
Vermont 5, Quinnipiac 1 — Ross Colton scored in both the first and third periods to give the Catamounts (9-3-2) the win over the Bobcats (9-4-2) in the championship game of the Friendship Four in Belfast.
UMass 2, St. Lawrence 2 — Niko Hildenbrand and Austin Plevy scored for UMass (3-7-2), but the Saints (8-4-4) won the shootout, 2-1, to take third place in the Friendship Four in Belfast.
Providence 3, Colgate 2 — A 3-point performance by Anthony Florentino (1 goal, 2 assists) gave the host Friars (5-5-2) a close win over the Raiders (3-7-4).
Sacred Heart 4, UConn 2 — Overcoming a two-goal, first-period deficit, Jordan Minello scored twice as the Pioneers (5-7-2) netted four unanswered goals to tame the host Huskies (4-6-5).
Maine 5, Brown 1 — Cedric Lacroix found the net twice as the host Black Bears (5-7-3) blew past the Bears (1-8-0).
Men’s basketball
Richmond 67, BC 54 — The Eagles’ Jerome Robinson led all scorers with 27 points, but the Eagles (4-2) fell to the Spiders (3-3) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Vermont 67, Yale 65 — Anthony Lamb tallied 18 points and Ernie Duncan sank a layup with a second left to lift the host Catamounts (6-2) over the Bulldogs (2-3).
LIU Brooklyn 82, UMass Lowell 78 — Despite a 27-point effort by Lowell’s Tyler Livingston, the Blackbirds (5-1) downed the host River Hawks (2-5) in overtime.
Virginia 63, Providence 52 — Guards Darius Thompson and London Perrantes each scored 11 points to lead the seventh-ranked Cavaliers (5-0) past the Friars (4-2). Jalen Lindsey (Providence) scored a game-high 18 points.
Women’s basketball
BC 73, St. Francis-Brooklyn 58 — Kelly Hughes had 21 points, 12 boards, and 6 3-pointers as the Eagles (2-4) routed the Terriers (1-4) at the Omni Classic in Boulder, Colo.
BU 66, UMass Lowell 56 — Corrine Williams and Courtney Latham combined for 36 points as the Terriers (1-4) defeated the River Hawks (0-6) at Case Gym. Williams also finished with a game-high nine rebounds.
Harvard 58, Fairfield 44 — Behind a 14-point performance by Sydney Skinner, the host Crimson (4-1) downed the Stags (3-3). Coach Kathy Delaney-Smith got her 550th win.
Wichita State 87, Northeastern 73 — Shannon Todd scored 19 points for the Huskies (2-5), but NU committed 25 turnovers in losing to the Shockers (2-4) at the Cancun Challenge.
