In this election of discontent, it seems most citizens are disheartened. I join in that feeling. However, I will cast my vote for president proudly this November. I will be proud because I’m voting for former governors Gary Johnson and Bill Weld.
Both are two-term GOP governors from deeply blue states, two men who know through experience that compromise isn’t a four-letter word, and that friendship toward all and malice toward none is the only way forward.
They are two men who respect you, the money you’ve earned, the rule of law, a woman’s right to choose, and a person’s right to worship (or not) as they see fit. They have no interest in telling you how to spend your hard-earned money and even less interest in what you do in your own home. As Weld said in 1992, “I want the government out of your pocketbook and out of your bedroom.’’
As a lifelong Republican, I am saddened that I cannot vote for my party’s nominee, but it is even sadder that my party has nominated someone so utterly unqualified to serve. Google Gary Johnson, and learn about the man. Do your homework before you walk into the voting booth. With every right comes responsibility.
And remember that the lesser of two evils still leaves you with evil. I will vote for Johnson-Weld in November and, no matter the result, will sleep like a baby.
