Firefighters (above) battled a forest fire on Monday as it spread through a village in the Mangualde district of central Portugal.

At right, a man walked down a snow-covered street in Santiago, Chile, on Saturday. The capital was hit by its biggest snowfall in the last decade, leaving about 300,000 homes without electricity. Snowfall was also reported in other parts of the country.
