Anderson scored 17 points, Zach Lewis added 14, and Massachusetts held off a late rally from Saint Joseph’s for a 70-63 victory in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. No. 12 seed UMass (15-17) snapped a three-game skid and plays fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure in a Thursday quarterfinal at 2:30 p.m. (NBCSN). No. 13 seed Saint Joseph’s (11-20) lost 10 of its last 11. Luwane Pipkins’s 3-pointer stretched the Minutemen’s lead to their largest of the game, 58-39, with about eight minutes left. But the Hawks rallied with a 24-6 run to pull to 66-63 with 14 seconds left. Lewis made two free throws and forced a turnover, and Anderson sealed it with a dunk.
Kansas suspends Jackson
Top-ranked Kansas suspended star freshman Josh Jackson for the opening game of the Big 12 tournament after he backed into a parked car and fled the scene, the latest in a string of distracting legal troubles for the Jayhawks. Jackson will miss Thursday’s quarterfinal against eighth-seeded TCU or No. 9 seed Oklahoma, but would be eligible to play in the semifinals if the Jayhawks advance . . . The plane carrying the Michigan men’s team slid off a runway in Ypsilanti, Mich., during an aborted takeoff, causing extensive damage. The team said everyone aboard was safe. Michigan faces Illinois in the Big Ten tournament on Thursday in Washington, D.C. . . . NHL commits to Coyotes
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the league is committed to keep the Coyotes in Arizona, while stressing that the team doesn’t have a future in its current arena in Glendale. ‘‘We have not given up on that market,’’ Bettman said on the final day of GM meetings in Boca Raton, Fla. ‘‘But we wanted to make clear that the long-term future and viability of that team, the Coyotes, isn’t going to be in Glendale.’’ Bettman also addressed the NHL playing in the 2018 Olympics in South Korea. ‘‘There’s absolutely nothing new,’’ Bettman said ‘‘And I think the overwhelming sentiment of the teams is that it’s very disruptive on the season and there’s somewhere between fatigue and negativity on the subject.’’ . . . The Dallas Stars signed forward Adam Cracknell to a $675,000, one-year contract extension. The 31-year-old Cracknell has posted career highs in games (53), goals (seven), and blocked shots (32) in his seventh season.

Bogut officially ruled out
The Cavaliers got some expected news when Andrew Bogut was ruled out for the remainder of the season — including the playoffs — after breaking his left leg Monday night just 58 seconds into his debut with Cleveland. Bogut, who typically defends near the basket, rushed out to guard Miami’s Okaro White and the two had a knee-to-shin collision that ended the 7-footer’s season.Kyle Korver, the team’s 3-point specialist, will miss at least one game with an injured left foot, and coach Tyronn Lue hasn’t shaken an ear/sinus infection that kept him home for Monday’s game and out of practice Wednesday.

Barcelona earns epic win
Barcelona completed the biggest comeback in Champions League soccer history by beating Paris Saint-Germain, 6-1, to reach the quarterfinals, scoring the decisive goal of a 6-5 victory on aggregate in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Barcelona scored three times from the 88th minute. Sergi Roberto's dramatic late goal was set up by Neymar. Barcelona was the first team to overturn a 4-0 first-leg defeat since the Champions League format started in the 1992-93 season . . .
