VIENNA, Ill. — Seven people were killed over the weekend in small-plane crashes in Illinois and Texas, authorities said.
In Vienna, Ill, four people died Saturday after a single-engine plane crashed in woods.
Johnson County’s coroner pronounced the two men and two women dead at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the scene of the crash. The victims were all adults.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a Piper PA28 small aircraft crashed in unknown circumstances on Saturday night. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
In Texas on Saturday, three people were killed when two small planes collided in midair near McKinney, officials said.
The FAA said the collision occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. near Aero Country Airport, a private airfield about 35 miles north of downtown Dallas.
FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said “both aircraft were flying under visual flight rules and were not in contact with air traffic control at the time of the collision.’’
