The Muppets vs. the Rat Pack

Having just read Alex Beam’s fun piece (“Dying to play obituary baseball,’’ May 3), I’m left to wonder if Sammy Davis Jr. might have scored a triple, dying on the same day as Jim Henson (May 16, 1990). Perhaps his story landed on the front page but below the fold with no picture? Fitting that he was politically conservative (a Nixon supporter) and a dancer in his younger years. As with the real thing, this most elusive feat of the cycle is accomplished only with a deep drive to right and sufficient speed to round the corner ahead of the throw.
