A wave of Trumpism has submerged the Senate. Bob Corker had proclaimed he would not vote for a tax bill that added a single penny to the national debt. How easy it was, it seems, to buy the Tennessee Republican’s vote with a provision that would make him much richer. When confronted on CNN by Wolf Blitzer with his former statement, Corker shrugged as if his words had no meaning. Remind you of anyone?
If Corker’s vote was discouraging, Susan Collins’s was positively disheartening. Collins had voted against the Obamacare repeal because of its effects on the poor. Now she has voted to basically disembowel Obamacare because she received promises that bills will be passed to fix the disastrous consequences of repealing the individual mandate. Those promises have already been broken. Anybody wanna buy a bridge?
