As I was reading Diane Hessan’s column “Letters from America’’ (Opinion, Jan. 1), I was struck by the letter from “Carol,’’ a Pennsylvania Republican. After complaining about the inheritance tax, which makes people “give a large portion [of an inherited estate] to the government,’’ she goes on to say, “If you want money, get a job and work for it.’’
