THE WALLS

Providence-based designer Kelly Taylor redesigned a soon-to-retire couple’s master bedroom suite in Jamestown, R.I., to have a hotel-like feel. The Benjamin Moore “Stonington Gray’’ walls provide a soft neutral backdrop for bold furnishings.

THE ARTWORK

Taylor chose the abstract painting by Barrington, R.I.-based artist Estelle Chojnicki, from Candita Clayton Gallery in Pawtucket, R.I., for its vibrancy. “The bits of color brought in from the accessories don’t have to live in this space forever,’’ Taylor said. “They’re timeless and flexible.’’

THE DOORS

A frosted-glass door leading to the walk-in custom-fitted closet provides privacy but lets light from the bedroom’s sliders, which face the water, stream into the smaller, windowless space. It also reinforces the suite’s overall spa/hotel aesthetic.

THE FURNITURE

Taylor designed the custom walnut bed with integrated night stands and reading lights based on hotel designs. “We didn’t want anything clanking around,’’ Taylor said.

THE LIGHTING

The Cerno Libri sconces turn off when shifted straight down.

THE DOG

Guntsah, a Chatham Hill retriever, joined the family shortly after the renovation. “My dog Jackson is the same breed, and the husband fell in love,’’ Taylor said.

THE FLOORING

The new 8-inch-wide rift and quartersawn white oak planks from Carlisle were a splurge, a birthday present from husband to wife.
