Future’s so bright
Finding shades on Newbury Street just got easier (and more stylish)
Sunglass selections in the best-known shops have become a tad typical. But eyewear is big business, with plenty of niche players enthusiastically entering the mix. New York-based brand Illesteva opened on Newbury Street in March, showcasing its cutting-edge signature styles on row upon row of blond wood shelving in a 450-square-foot retail space with a polished concrete floor. The sunglasses, handmade in France and Italy using hand-mixed acetate, bamboo, and titanium, cost $150 to $300. Leather bags and sturdy umbrellas are also for sale.
