Associated Press

Matt Duffy’s three-run double highlighted a five-run sixth inning and the last-place Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays for the second straight game, 7-5, Saturday night in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The big outburst came against righthander Marco Estrada (8-7), who had given up just two singles in the first five innings. Duffy’s double was the fifth hit of the inning.

Rookie Blake Snell (5-7) got the win, going six innings and allowing one run and two hits.

Toronto dropped into a first-place tie in the AL East with the Red Sox, who won at Oakland Saturday night. Both teams are 76-59, two games ahead of Baltimore.

Kiermaier had a two-run homer in the seventh to give the Rays a 7-1 lead.

Toronto rallied for four runs in the ninth off Enny Romero before Alex Colome got his 30th save.

Giants 3, Cubs 2 — Madison Bumgarner outpitched Jake Arrieta with 10 strikeouts over six innings, and San Francisco pounced on rare miscues by Chicago in a victory at Wrigley Field.

Bumgarner (14-8) allowed two runs and five hits in his fourth victory in his last five starts. The Giants rebounded from a pair of one-run losses in the first two games of the four-game set against the major league-leading Cubs.

Arrieta (16-6) was charged with three runs — two earned — and four hits in six innings in his first loss since July 30. Chicago had won five in a row overall.

The Cubs had one last chance when pinch hitter Anthony Rizzo led off the ninth with a walk against Will Smith. Rizzo advanced on a sacrifice by Dexter Fowler, but the big first baseman was caught off second on the play and Kris Bryant hit a soft lineout to shortstop Brandon Crawford, handing Santiago Casilla his 30th save.

Chicago also had an opportunity in the sixth, but Bumgarner struck out Matt Szczur for the third time with two on. Hunter Strickland got Addison Russell to line to right with the bases loaded in the seventh.

The sputtering Giants had dropped three of four and eight of 12 overall.

The Cubs entered with a 16½-game lead in the NL Central thanks to a number of tremendous defensive plays in the past week. But they were sloppy on a cloudless day with the wind blowing in as two of the game’s top pitchers squared off.

Third baseman Tommy La Stella’s two-out throwing error in the first made it 1-0. The Giants scored in the fourth with the help of a passed ball and added a run in the sixth on Arrieta’s second wild pitch.

Dodgers 5, Padres 1 — Rich Hill pitched 6⅔ innings of no-hit ball before giving up a single to Alexei Ramirez, Yasmani Grandal hit a three-run homer, and the NL-West leaders beat visiting San Diego.

Hill allowed one hit, struck out eight, and walked two in his second start since the Dodgers acquired him from Oakland Aug. 1.

The Milton native remained unbeaten in his last 10 starts, with a career-best eight-game winning streak in that span.

Reds 9, Cardinals 1 — Zack Cozart hit a pair of doubles during run-scoring innings that included St. Louis misplays as Cincinnati pinned the visitors with their third straight loss.

The Cardinals have lost three in a row and seven of 11. They’re still in position to get the NL’s second wild-card spot, staying ahead of the Mets, Pirates, and Marlins.

Pinch hitter Ramon Cabrera’s two-run single in the seventh inning put the Reds ahead, 4-1. Cincinnati used four walks by Jerome Williams to score five times in the eighth, capped by Tucker Barnhart’s bases-loaded double.

Dan Straily (11-7) gave up three hits, including Jedd Gyorko’s homer, and a career-high seven walks in only 5⅔ innings. Gyorko hit his career-high 25th home run, 18 since the All-Star break.

Jaime Garcia (10-11) lost after allowing two runs in six innings.

Rangers 12, Astros 4 — Adrian Beltre and Nomar Mazara each homered, Derek Holland pitched his third straight quality start since coming off the disabled list, and host Texas beat Houston for its seventh straight victory.

Indians 8, Marlins 3 — Francisco Lindor went 4 for 4, Jason Kipnis hit a two-run homer, and Coco Crisp — playing his first game since being acquired from Oakland — had three hits, helping host Cleveland win its fifth straight game.

Twins 11, White Sox 3 — Miguel Sano and Trevor Plouffe each homered during an eight-run third inning and host Minnesota went deep four times against Chicago.

Brian Dozier led off with his 34th homer, and Byron Buxton tacked on a two-run shot in the second against beleaguered starter James Shields.

Orioles 2, Yankees 0 Kevin Gausman won his fourth straight start by outpitching CC Sabathia for the second time in seven days, and Adam Jones homered as host Baltimore shut out New York for a third straight game.

Royals 5, Tigers 2 — Eric Hosmer hit his career-high 20th homer, Yordano Ventura repeatedly pitched into and out of trouble, and host Kansas City snapped a three-game losing streak.

Brewers 7, Pirates 4 Struggling rookie Orlando Arcia had three hits, including a tiebreaking single in Milwaukee’s four-run eighth inning to pin host Pittsburgh with its fifth straight loss.
