MEDINA – The Realtors and staff at Howard Hanna Medina recently assisted local children in foster care through Knapik’s Knapsacks.

This organization’s mission is to empower the more than 1,200 children who enter foster care daily with a knapsack. Knapik’s Knapsack’s provides each child coming into care locally with a large knapsack full of comfort and hygiene items, with plenty of room left for their most precious belonging.

Realtor Sally Manual sent out an email asking the Realtors to pick up one item while shopping to “help the children feel like there are people who really care about them.”

Overnight, Manual’s desk was overflowing with toothbrushes, toiletries, coloring books and crayons, night lights, soft toys and other items needed to fill the knapsacks.

“Our Realtors help families into and out of houses daily, and are well aware of the emotional aspects of ‘home,’” said VP and Medina Manager Karen Thompson. “I’m not surprised at the overwhelming response from this talented and caring group.”

Knapik’s Knapsack founder, Heather Knapik, a former foster child who moved through 18 foster homes, accepted the donations now overflowing a conference room.

To contribute an item to this organization, drop it off at Howard Hanna Medina, 3565 Medina Road. There is a constant need for throw blankets, large stuffed animals, coloring books/crayons, shampoo, hairbrushes, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Monetary donations to Howard Hanna’s own nonprofit, Children’s Free Care Fund, will also be accepted. Howard Hanna Medina is also a drop off for Coats For Kids donations.
