Revolution forward Charlie Davies, who recently revealed that he has cancer, was traded Thursday to the Philadelphia Union.
Davies said Saturday that he had been diagnosed with liposarcoma, a rare cancer found in soft tissue fat cells, and that he is in remission following treatment.
“It’s never easy parting with a player like Charlie, but we are grateful for his contributions to the club and we wish him and his family all the best and consider them a part of the Revolution family,’’ Revolution general manager Michael Burns said.
Davies played in 64 games in four seasons with the Revolution and had 14 goals and eight assists.
The Revolution, who are tied for sixth place in MLS’s Eastern Conference, received the Union’s first-round pick in the 2018 SuperDraft and allocation money.
“I’m blown away by the support I’ve received from Revolution fans and from my teammates,’’ Davies said. “It’s been an honor to be part of such a wonderful and welcoming locker room and I leave with incredible friendships.’’
