Prized lineup at Nantucket book fest

An impressive array of award-winning authors will congregate for this summer’s Nantucket Book Festival. Last year’s Man Booker Prize winner Marlon James (“A Brief History of Seven Killings’’), NPR talk-show host Diane Rehm (“On My Own’’), US poet laureate Billy Collins, and Belmont-bred journalist Sebastian Junger (“The Perfect Storm’’) are among the 24 authors scheduled to present during the three-day fest, which will feature more than 40 local writers.

Others participating in the event, which marks the fest’s fifth year, include Nathaniel Philbrick (“In the Heart of the Sea’’), Alice Hoffman (“The Museum of Extraordinary Things’’), Diane Ackerman (“The Human Age’’), and James Beard-award winning food blogger Michael Ruhlman. Author readings and panel discussions will take up the majority of the festival, which will also include an outdoor exhibit of authors selling and signing copies of their works — as well as assorted children’s programming — in the Nantucket Atheneum garden.

The mostly free event is funded by the nonprofit Nantucket Book Foundation as part of its ongoing mission to promote reading, writing, and literacy while honoring a range of writers. This year’s fest will take place June 17-19. More information, and a complete list of authors, is available at www.nantucketbookfestival.org.
