A BRo’S GOTTA EAT
It’s impossible to keep up with the options in one of the most food-centric cities in the country, but here are a few essential spots to sample in San Francisco. These are not Bro restaurants, although you may spot them out of their natural habitat.
Californios
Make your reservation as soon as you book your ticket to the west coast. The only dining option at the tiny Mexican restaurant is a multi-course tasting menu for $125.

Hawker Fare
The surroundings at Hawker Fare are as vibrant as chef James Syhabout’s Thai-style street food.

Octavia
Chef Melissa Perello’s restaurant Frances remains a San Francisco staple, all while avoiding elaborate concepts (a pop-up that only serves smoked Finnish cod every other Tuesday!). Octavia follows the same pattern of delicious, innovative cuisine. 1701 Octavia St. www.octavia-sf.com 415-408-7507
State Bird Provisions
Dinner at State Bird Provisions can feel like a cocktail party, or Sunday dim sum. Servers pass trays and carts with cuisine from a menu that changes every night. The one staple is quail. It’s California’s state bird. Reserve 60 days in advance, or prepare for more than an hour in line. 529 Fillmore St. www.statebirdsf.com 415-795-1272
