Not the knuckleballer. The comedian.

Steven Wright

This summer, Steven Wright has been holding together the Red Sox’s otherwise sketchy pitching staff with an All-Star performance. He throws the knuckleball, the flighty, impossible-to-predict pitch that makes a nice metaphor for the singular comedy stylings of his name-mate, the deadpan Boston standup veteran Steven Wright. That Wright, who’s old enough to be the ballplayer’s frizzy-haired, non-sequitizing father, makes an appearance at the Cape Cod Melody Tent after a recent run as the weird guy at the end of the bar on Louis C.K.’s “Horace and Pete.’’

Christmas in July

The Christmas music is sure to kick in soon at the mall, so why not celebrate with Old Man Winter? That’s the name of Cape Cod Beer’s British-style strong ale, an award-winning brew aged in whiskey barrels from Nantucket’s Triple Eight Distillery. This year’s batch, sold in big bottles, goes on sale today, and it’s only available while supplies last. No wonder the old-timer’s nose is always red.

David Sedaris

“I don’t like being left to my own thoughts,’’ the comic writer David Sedaris once said. He was talking about his enjoyment of audiobooks, but he might have been referring to his travel routine. This summer the author of “Me Talk Pretty One Day’’ and other best-selling collections returns to the Cape and islands to distract himself from the inner workings of his own mind by engaging with his adoring audiences. He’s in Edgartown Tuesday and Wednesday, on Nantucket Thursday and in Provincetown Saturday.

Farm Tour & Meadow Hayride

More than once in its history, Katama Farm was slated to be subdivided into building lots. Having survived those attempts, the land was occupied by The FARM Institute (TFI) in 2000, where it serves as an education for people of all backgrounds in the societal benefits of a working farm. TFI offers farm tours every morning from Monday-Friday through Labor Day, and frequent hayrides too. Check the schedule to plan a visit.

Farm tour 10 a.m. Monday-Friday. Suggested donation $10/family. 14 Aero Ave., Edgartown.

“On With the Show’’ feat. Meryl Streep

The Theatre Workshop of Nantucket has been inspiring islanders since 1956. To mark the institution’s 60th year, they’re bringing in an acting icon who has been thrilling audiences since she earned her MFA at Yale in the mid-1970s. There the great Meryl Streep formed a cabaret act with John Shea, TWN’s artistic director emeritus, and actor-director Joe Grifasi. The three old friends reunite for a special songs-and-stories benefit marking the milestone.

6 p.m. Nantucket Hotel and Resort, 77 Easton St.
