Red Sox spring training report

SATURDAY’S WEATHER: Temperatures climbed from 65 degrees to 81 over the course of the workout.

FUNDAMENTALLY SPEAKING: The pitchers and position players worked together for 20 minutes on cutoffs and relays. Earlier in the day, there was a lively drill for the catchers that involved a coach hitting them hard one-hoppers from second base to simulate throws to the plate. Christian Vazquez had hands like a bear trap, grabbing everything.

PLAYER OF THE DAY: As the players moved from one field to another, Steven Wright signed autographs for a bunch of kids waiting by the ropes. Wright also hustled through his fielding drills. Thankfully no pinch running was involved.

AROUND THE BASES: The Sox will have their first session of live batting practice on Sunday . . . Eduardo Rodriguez, who injured his right knee pitching in Venezuela in December, had his first session of pitcher’s fielding practice . . . Xander Bogaerts, a veteran big leaguer at age 24, was holding court in the clubhouse before the game, talking to teammates Roenis Elias, Marco Hernandez, and Junior Lake.

MEDICAL REPORT: “Everyone’s on track,’’ manager John Farrell said.

SCHEDULE: The Sox have a busy Sunday ahead. It’s Photo Day starting at 7 a.m., so the players will be posing in their home white uniforms for media outlets, baseball card companies, etc. Then there’s a meeting with the Baseball Assistance Team charity at 9:30 a.m. The players hit the field at 10:15 a.m.
