NEW YORK — Thieves — discriminating speed-shoppers who skipped over the merely pricey — made off with millions of dollars in fur jackets and coats from a Dennis Basso store in New York City on Christmas Eve.
The police have no suspects, but a manager at the boutique on Madison Avenue, Achilleas Georgiades, said Monday that he was sure of one thing: “They know a lot about furs.
Officials said that once they got inside the store, the burglars headed straight for the most expensive sable and chinchilla coats, leading store officials to speculate that they may have cased the store before the theft.
Store officials said the thieves made off with at least 20 expensive fur coats, worth millions of dollars.
The Dennis Basso shop is popular with prominent Upper East Side residents and celebrities.
