In a matchup of programs on target for Super 8 selections, fourth-ranked BC High connected for three goals in a five-minute span in the third period to close out No. 3 Hingham, 5-2, on Saturday in the first game of the Buddy Ferreira Classic.

Senior forwards Timmy Kelly and Michael Grant netted a pair of goals for the Eagles (13-4-1) at the Falmouth Ice Arena.

“That line’s been generating offense and good solid defensive play all year,’’ said BC coach John Flaherty. “Mav Woods, Timmy Kelly, and Michael Grant have really been a mainstay line. They’ve been consistent every game.’’

Kelly opened the scoring just 2:16 in, redirecting a shot from senior Andrew McDonough from the point.

“I came out from behind the net, I saw [Andrew] McDonough at the top, and I was just screaming, ‘Shoot it,’ ’’ said Kelly. “I didn’t mean to tip it, I just did. It was nice.’’

The Eagles dominated throughout, limiting the Harbormen (10-3-6) to shots from the perimeter.

“I think they were pretty content on firing the puck from the outside. From what we could tell, they were shooting from anywhere,’’ said Flaherty.

“Our goal was to gap up and make sure if they were going to the net, it was going to be from 50, 60, 70 feet.’’

Hingham tied the game at the start of the second period. Senior Timmy Carroll left a pass for junior John Sullivan, who ripped a shot far-side.

Grant responded six minutes later for a 2-1 lead with an end-to-end goal that started with a simple chip to himself off the boards.

“Those guys are just an energy group, they don’t take a shift off,’’ said Flaherty. “They compete for every puck.’’

Up, 2-1, entering the third, the Eagles broke open the game with three goals in a five-minute span late in the period. Joseph Kramer scored 9:32 in and Kelly followed up a minute later. Grant sealed it with an empty-netter with 21 seconds left after Will Kenney had scored for Hingham.

Kelly felt the consistent attack was the difference.

“I think that’s the biggest difference between now and the beginning of the season. Now we have all of our lines going,’’ said the coach. “We can always depend on each other to get the puck out of the zone and to work at the other end.’’
