WORCESTER

State agency to send supplies to Puerto Rico

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency will load 264 pallets of donated goods for Puerto Rico onto trucks Monday , according to an agency statement. The goods include bottled water, canned food, diapers, flashlights, and personal hygiene products, the statement said. Donors across the Bay State gave these products at community drives. The National Guard collected them and delivered them to a warehouse donated by Worcester Polytechnic Institute, according to the statement. Teamsters Local 25 will load up to nine trucks beginning at 7 a.m. in Worcester, the statement said. Those trucks are bound for Florida, where the pallets will be transferred to cargo ships headed for Puerto Rico.

Authorities identify pedestrian struck by car

Authorities have identified a 64-year-old man who was struck and killed while he was walking on Route 113 in Newburyport Friday evening. The man was identified as Donald Champoux of Newburyport, the Essex district attorney’s office said in a press release. Champoux was hit by a 2006 Toyota Scion as he was crossing Storey Avenue at Low Street at about 6:29 p.m., Steve O’Connell, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, said in a statement Saturday. Champoux was brought to Anna Jaques Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation, the office said. No charges or citations have been issued.

WOBURN

Police identify Maine woman in fatal crash

State police have identified a Maine woman who died in a three-car crash on Interstate 93 in Woburn on Saturday. Deborah A. Burpee, 48, of Kennebunk, Maine, died after her 2009 Honda Fit crashed into the back of a GMC Yukon, which then struck a 2012 Honda Civic, in the northbound lane just south of Exit 37A at about 5:10 p.m., police said. Burpee was pronounced dead at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. No other injuries were reported, police said. Traffic was slowed or at a near standstill at the time of the crash, police said. The cause is under investigation.

Popular diner to reopen in new venue after fire

Months after a three-alarm fire destroyed the J&M Diner in Framingham, it is set to reopen in a new location Monday, the owners said on Facebook. In March, the diner was destroyed in an early morning blaze at the Old Path Village shopping complex. The fire led to an outpouring of support as customers took to Facebook to express their shock and appreciation for the restaurant, which opened in 1998. Now, eight months after the fire, J&M will open its doors at 50 Worcester Road in Framingham.

BRENTWOOD, N.H.

Logger fatally crushed by tree he was removing

A logger, 35, was fatally crushed by a tree he was removing in Brentwood, N.H., on Sunday, police said. The man, whose name has not been released, was found dead on a small farm on Middle Road around 1:45 p.m., according to Corporal Brett Wells. He was killed by a 60- to 80-foot pine tree that he had been cutting with a chainsaw.
