House on the water at Beach Point in Truro

Photographer Don Krohn’s new book, “On Cape Cod,’’ features photographs from across the Cape. Each week in this section we have featured one photo from each of the Cape’s 15 towns and Krohn’s descriptions of his work.

This cottage along Shore Road in Truro brings to mind Edward Hopper’s paintings. There is a narrow beach below the porch, but the impression is that the house extends mysteriously almost into the water. The photograph was taken just before the house was opened up for the summer, so there is something quiet and contemplative about the image. The view across the water is southwest toward Wood End in Provincetown, since by this point the Cape begins to curl into Cape Cod Bay. It’s a confusing geography, even when you understand it.
