3. Baylor (26-7) vs. 11. Southern Cal (26-9), 7:45 p.m., truTv: For the seventh straight tournament a First Four team has made the Round of 32. USC is a slow-starting bunch but when they finally figure it out they can be impressive, especially mobile big man Bennie Boatwright. Baylor’s zone defense can confound teams, and if the Trojans don’t figure it out early enough this will be the end of the line.
at Greenville, S.C.
2. Duke (28-8) vs. 7. South Carolina (23-10), 8:40 p.m., TNT: This rarely happens to Duke, but the Blue Devils are stuck in the state of their opponent (Greenville is about 100 miles from Columbia). The Gamecocks were excellent in beating Marquette in the first round and they’ll need to play just as well to have a chance. Duke looks like a possible national champion.
MIDWEST REGION
at Tulsa, Okla.
1. Kansas (29-4) vs. 9. Michigan State (20-14), 5:15 p.m., CBS: Michigan State’s first-round victory was a mirage; the Spartans will not be able to stay with Kansas and its best-in-the-nation backcourt of Frank Mason and Devonte’ Graham.
at Sacramento
3. Oregon (30-5) vs. Rhode Island (25-9), 7:10 p.m., TBS: Rhody is playing as well as it can; suffocating defense plus the emergence of forward Kuran Iverson and guard Jeff Dowtin. If the Rams repeat their first-round effort, controlling the pace along with tough defense, they can win. Oregon will try to turn it into a track meet.
at Indianapolis
2. Louisville (25-8) vs. 7. Michigan (25-11), 12:10 p.m., CBS: Much like Rhode Island, Michigan is playing its best as guard Derrick Walton Jr. has emerged as a star. The pressure will be on Walton and the other Michigan guards to handle Louisville’s pressure defense. Louisville also will have an advantage on the boards.
SOUTH REGION
at Greenville, S.C.
1. North Carolina (28-7) vs. 8. Arkansas (26-9), 6:10 p.m.,TNT: Arkansas is a decent squad, but the Razorbacks can’t cut it when they are faced with competition like this. Carolina’s depth and size will be too much.
at Sacramento
3. UCLA (30-4) vs. 6. Cincinnati (30-5), 9:40 p.m., TBS: What a contrast, the free-flowing offense of UCLA vs. the MMA-level defense of Cincy. Cincy’s goal is to slow down the Bruins. Easier said than done, and rarely accomplished.
at Indianapolis
2. Kentucky (30-5) vs. 10. Wichita State (31-4), 2:40 p.m., CBS: Some will say Wichita State benefited from playing in a weak league; I say, so did Kentucky. Wichita can win this game by keeping Kentucky’s De’Aaron Fox out of the lane and not allowing Malik Monk to get on a hot streak from the outside. The Shockers are not a pretty offensive team, so this could be played in the 60s.
