As supporters of J. Keith Motley, chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Boston, we would like to thank the inimitable Joan Vennochi for asking the tough questions of Marty Meehan, president of the UMass system, and discovering what many in the community already knew — that there are many individuals responsible for the cost overruns and lack of oversight at the Boston campus (“Meehan, Motley, and sorting out the mess at UMass Boston,’’ Opinion, March 28).
Reading recent news articles, many were left to surmise that the problem was strictly Motley’s, which those of us who have faith in the chancellor knew couldn’t possibly be the case. We remain proud that through all of the fingerpointing and not-so-subtle innuendo, Motley stands strong as the team player he is, ready to work to reverse course. No doubt that is why, in Vennochi’s column, Meehan called him “a very good leader,’’ something we also already knew.
