Harvard established a season high Saturday night by winning its sixth straight game, 77-58 over Brown at Lavietes Pavilion to keep its momentum as it drives toward the first Ivy League men’s basketball tournament.
The Crimson are 18-7 overall and 10-2 in league play, safely inside the Ivy tourney cutoff of the top four teams. With two games left in the regular season, Harvard visits Ivy leader Princeton (12-0) on Friday night.
Siyani Chambers topped the Crimson with 19 points.
Vermont 66, Stony Brook 51 — Freshman Anthony Lamb scored a game-high 19 points as the host Catamounts (26-5) became the first team in America East Conference history to finish 16-0 in conference play.
The victory was the 18th straight for Vermont, extending the second-longest win streak in Division 1 behind top-ranked Gonzaga. The Catamounts set a program record with their 26th victory.
Vermont will host Maine on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the conference tournament quarterfinals.
After Vermont jumped out to an 8-2 advantage, the Seawolves (17-12, 12-4) rallied to take a 19-17 lead midway through the first half.
But the Catamounts rattled off 18 straight points over a six-minute span before an 8-0 Stony Brook run cut Vermont’s lead to 35-27 at the half.
After the break, Payton Henson (12 points) and Darren Payen (11 points) helped the Catamounts stage a 16-4 run and build a 20-point lead.
Roland Nyama led the Seawolves with 14 points and Akwasi Yeboah added 11.
BU 71, Holy Cross 68 — Justin Alston recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds and Tyler Scanlon netted 19 points as the Terriers (17-13, 12-6 Patriot) clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference tourney with an overtime win over the host Crusaders (15-16, 9-9).
UNC Wilmington 74, Northeastern 65 — A game-high 24 points by T.J. Williams couldn’t push the Huskies (15-15, 8-10 Colonial Athletic) past the host Seahawks (26-5, 15-3).
Providence 72, Marquette 69 — Rodney Bullock netted a team-high 20 points and Kyron Cartwright added 16 in guiding the host Friars (18-11, 8-8 Big East) past the Golden Eagles (17-11, 8-8).
New Hampshire 94, UMBC 90 — Tanner Leissner poured in 30 points and Iba Camara scored the first 8 points in double overtime as the host Wildcats (19-11, 10-6 America East) clinched a home playoff berth with a win over the Retrievers (18-11, 9-7).
Rhode Island 69, VCU 59 — Hassan Martin (17 points, 18 rebounds) and Jared Terrell (20 points, 10 rebounds) led URI (19-9, 11-5 Atlantic 10) past visiting Virginia Commonwealth (23-6, 13-3), which had won nine in a row.
Yale 99, Dartmouth 86 — Miye Yoni supplied 24 points to power the Bulldogs (15-10, 7-5 Ivy League) past the host Big Green (6-19, 3-9) in Hanover, N.H.
UCLA 77, Arizona 72 — Thomas Welsh scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and the No. 5 Bruins (26-3, 13-3) snapped Arizona’s 21-game home-court winning streak and dropped the No. 4 Wildcats (26-4, 15-2) into a tie with Oregon for first place in the Pac-12 heading into the final week of the regular season.
Women’s basketball
BU 68, Holy Cross 56 — Sophie Beaudry had a game-high 21 points and added five blocks to lead the host Terriers (12-16, 10-7 Patriot) past the Crusaders (8-20, 6-11) at Case Gym.
Harvard 66, Brown 63 — Katie Benzan scored 24 points as the Crimson (20-5, 8-4 Ivy) clinched a conference tournament berth with a win over the host Bears (14-11, 5-7).
UConn 91, Memphis 48 — Katie Lou Samuelson poured in 29 points to lead the top-ranked Huskies (28-0, 15-0 AAC) in Storrs, Conn., for their 103rd straight win.
Washington 84, Utah 77 — The No. 11 Huskies coasted in Seattle as Kelsey Plum became the NCAA’s all-time women’s scoring leader. Plum scored a career-high 57 points and passed Jackie Stiles as the top scorer with 3,397 points.
Men’s hockey
Harvard 6, St. Lawrence 3 — Ryan Donato notched two goals and an assist as the third-ranked Crimson (22-5-2, 16-4-2 ECAC) held off a third-period comeback by the No. 20 Saints (16-11-7, 12-6-4) and locked up the top seed in the ECAC tournament.
Providence 2, UMass 1 — Garrett Gamez scored at 2:44 of overtime to give the 10th-ranked Friars (20-9-5, 12-7-3) the win over the Minutemen (5-27-2, 2-19-1).
Maine 5, Northeastern 4 — Nolan Vesey registered a hat trick, including the winner at 6:51 of the third, to lead the host Black Bears (11-19-4, 5-15-2 Hockey East) past the Huskies (16-13-5, 9-10-3).
Union 3, Cornell 3 — Mike Vecchione notched a goal and an assist as the seventh-ranked Dutchmen (24-8-2, 17-4-1 ECAC) clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament with the win over the No. 9 Big Red (18-7-4, 13-5-4).
Merrimack 3, Vermont 2 — Brett Seney netted the go-ahead goal at 13:32 of the third as the Warriors (14-14-6, 8-8-6 Hockey East) secured home ice to open the conference tournament with the win over the No. 15 Catamounts (18-11-5, 10-8-4).
UConn 4, New Hampshire 2 — Evan Richardson scored unassisted at 4:19 of the second to push the host Huskies (12-14-8, 8-10-4) past the Wildcats (12-17-5, 7-11-4).
Quinnipiac 4, Brown 1 — The Bobcats (19-13-2, 13-8-1 ECAC) scored three unanswered goals in the second to down the Bears (4-23-2, 3-18-1).
The teams will meet next week in Hamden, Conn., in the opening round of the conference tournament.
Clarkson 6, Dartmouth 4 — Troy Josephs scored twice and added an assist to as the Golden Knights (15-14-5, 10-9-3 ECAC) secured home ice early in the conference tournament with the win over the host Big Green (10-16-3, 7-13-2).
Princeton 4, Yale 1 — A goal and an assist for Eric Robinson paced the host Tigers (13-13-3, 8-11-3 ECAC) past the Bulldogs (11-13-5, 7-12-3).
Women’s hockey
Northeastern 3, UConn 2 — Denisa Krizova scored at 5:43 of overtime as the host Huskies (21-11-3) completed a sweep of UConn (14-18-4) in the Hockey East tourney quarterfinals.
BU 4, New Hampshire 3 — Samantha Sutherland scored the go-ahead, shorthanded goal as the host Terriers (18-11-6) forced a decisive third game with the Wildcats (14-18-2) in the Hockey East tourney quarterfinals.
Vermont 5, Providence 1 — The Catamounts (14-13-9) sent the Hockey East quarterfinal series to a third game at Schneider Arena. Five players scored for Vermont while Alyssa Gorecki tallied two assists. Kate Friesen scored for the Friars (17-16-3) to cut PC’s deficit to 2-1 midway through the third period.
