Recent bird sightings as reported to the Mass. Audubon Society:
Good numbers of shearwaters continued to be sighted at Buzzards Bay last week. Observers reported more than 140 shearwaters at West Island in Fairhaven, including 40 great shearwaters, 40 Cory’s shearwaters, and 15 sooty shearwaters.
► Plum Island: Eight Wilson’s storm-petrels, a Northern gannet, a long-tailed duck, a hooded merganser, and a pied-billed grebe were sighted at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.
Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary: Several flocks of red-necked phalaropes and growing numbers of jaegers were reported.
Westport: At Gooseberry Neck, a king eider continues to be sighted along with a great cormorant and three cliff swallows.
Miscellaneous: A common loon was reported at Flints Pond in Lincoln. At Belle Isle Marsh in Winthrop, a stilt sandpiper and four bobolinks were reported. A Wilson’s warbler was sighted at the Park Avenue wastelands in Carver. On Nantucket, there was a report of a palm warbler at Eel Point.
