A not-so-classic ice cream sandwich
By Ann Trieger Kurland

A carton of ice cream in the freezer is a welcome warm-weather staple, but pulling out a homemade ice cream sandwich will really impress. Craft four classic-looking ice cream sandwiches with the new SweetSpot Ice Cream Sandwich Maker from Chef’n ($20). Bake the batter in the two silicone sheets, which have patterns to create the tiny perforations that dot the old-school sandwich’s surface. Then fill with ice cream and freeze to make the treats. A spreading tool and a recipe are included. Soft or crunchy on each side, filled with the flavor of your choosing, there are endless combinations to tinker with. Available at Sur La Table and Williams-Sonoma locations, or go to www.chefn.com. ANN TRIEGER KURLAND
