Felix Hernandez looked uncomfortable all afternoon but overcame a career high-tying six walks, and the Seattle Mariners held off New York, 3-2, Saturday at Yankee Stadium for their third straight win.
‘‘I wasn’t happy with my performance,’’ the ace said, adding, ‘‘I was all over the place.’’
Hernandez tied Randy Johnson’s team record for career strikeouts, but seemed out of sorts throughout his five innings. The ace constantly pawed the rubber, scuffed the mound, and tugged his jersey.
The Yankees lost their fourth in a row when Chase Headley grounded out with runners on second and third to end it, leaving them 0 for 24 with runners in scoring position during the first two games of the series. Alex Rodriguez struck out three times and the 40-year-old heard boos as his hitless slump reached 19 at-bats.
Carlos Beltran hit an RBI double for the only run against Hernandez. King Felix gave up five hits while relying on a heavy dose of changeups and a lot of breaking balls that bounced.
Hernandez fanned four, matching Johnson’s mark of 2,162 strikeouts with the Mariners. He improved to 6-1 with a 1.41 ERA in nine starts at the new Yankee Stadium.
The Mariners have won eight of their last 10 at Yankee Stadium.
Indians 7, Mets 5 — Jason Kipnis and Cleveland handed Matt Harvey his third straight loss to begin the season, beating New York at Progressive Field.
Josh Tomlin pitched five solid innings for Cleveland after allowing a home run to the first batter he faced this season. Kipnis had an RBI double off Harvey and scored twice, and Mike Napoli drove in two runs.
Harvey retired his first 13 batters before Cleveland scored twice in the fifth. The Indians added three runs in the sixth, and Harvey was charged with five runs in 5? innings.
Jose Ramirez tied the game with a double and scored on Juan Uribe’s single. Kipnis’s run-scoring double and RBI singles by Mike Napoli and Yan Gomes in the sixth finished Harvey.
Nationals 8, Phillies 1 — Max Scherzer threw seven impressive innings and hit a two-run double, Bryce Harper hit another homer, and Washington won in Philadelphia.
The Nationals are off to a 9-1 start, best in franchise history.

Tigers 5, Astros 3 — Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning and Detroit rallied for a win on the road.
Rangers 8, Orioles 4 — Mitch Moreland’s go-ahead double off the right-field fence and Rougned Odor’s two-run single highlighted a six-run seventh inning, leading host Texas to the win.
Cubs 6, Rockies 2 — Jake Arrieta threw eight scoreless innings and Chicago hit three home runs to beat Colorado.
Arrieta (3-0), the reigning NL Cy Young winner, struck out eight and allowed five hits in his home debut. He has not allowed a run in his last 48? innings at Wrigley Field.
Dexter Fowler hit a three-run homer in the seventh, and Anthony Rizzo and Jorge Soler hit back-to-back shots in the fourth.
The Cubs have won nine of 11 for their best start since they went 10-1 in 1969.
Athletics 5, Royals 3 — Josh Reddick and Stephen Vogt homered to back Sonny Gray’s solid effort, and host Oakland ended a four-game losing streak.
Gray pitched through trouble, lasting six innings to earn his first victory against the Royals in four starts, leaving the Red Sox as the only AL team he has not yet beaten.
Rays 7, White Sox 2 — Brandon Guyer homered to end Tampa Bay’s scoreless drought, Brad Miller added a two-run shot, and the Rays stopped visiting Chicago’s five-game winning streak.
In his first start of the season, Erasmo Ramirez gave up three hits and no walks while striking out four, becoming the first Rays starter to win in 2016.
Pirates 5, Brewers 0 — Andrew McCutchen hit his first home run of the season and Jon Niese combined with two relievers on a three-hitter as Pittsburgh blanked Milwaukee at home.
Twins 6, Angels 4 — In Minneapolis, Oswaldo Arcia and Byung Ho Park homered in the eighth inning to lift Minnesota.
Reds 9, Cardinals 8 — Brandon Phillips, Zack Cozart, and Jay Bruce had two RBIs apiece for visiting Cincinnati, which erased an early four-run deficit against St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright in a victory over the Cardinals.
Braves 6, Marlins 4 — In Miami, Nick Markakis drove in three runs with three hits and Atlanta won for the second consecutive night after losing their first nine games.
