As a recent graduate with a robotics engineering degree, I wanted to comment on “Robots will take your job.’’ With today’s technology and level of artificial intelligence, I can agree that robots may replace many future jobs. However, I see a different outcome for our society.
Scott Santens presents his paradigm that robots are taking over jobs. However, no matter how smart robots get, they will always need humans to “teach’’ them, as the world changes, by continually adapting software and robot capabilities. As robots integrate themselves more into our daily lives, humans will be needed for maintenance and development.
Instead of thinking linearly about robots taking over jobs, if we step back to view the whole system, we see that other job opportunities arise.
