Really missing the points
Fourth-year tight end Tyler Eifert returned to action for the Bengals last week, and he could be ready to break out. (frank victores/associated press)

As fantasy drafts were kicking into gear eight weeks ago, I would have been thrilled if my first two picks had been Rams running back Todd Gurley and Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson.

Gurley was entering his second season after rushing for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns in 13 games as a rookie. Robinson was entering his third season, coming off a breakout sophomore campaign in which he amassed 1,400 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in 16 games.

I didn’t end up with Gurley and Robinson, but a bunch of people probably did, and their seasons are likely in the gutter.

Gurley has accumulated just 403 yards and three touchdowns in seven games (he’s on a bye this week), while Robinson had only 296 yards and three touchdowns in six games heading into Thursday night’s game at Tennessee. With the regular season in standard leagues already more than half over, even an occasional return to form over the next six weeks might not rescue fantasy football participants who invested in both players.

Short of benching (unlikely) or trading either player, all you can do is swallow hard and play smart with the rest of your roster. We’re here to help.

Three up:

Tyler Eifert, TE, Cincinnati: Eifert was limited in his return from injury during Week 7, so you won’t have to break the bank for him in daily fantasy. He’s immediately a top-three tight end if he plays without restrictions.

Brock Osweiler, QB, Houston: Don’t laugh. Houston’s opponent, Detroit, has allowed the most points to fantasy quarterbacks, and might be without its top cornerback. When Osweiler has faced the likes of Chicago, Tennessee, and Indianapolis, he has averaged 22 fantasy points per game.

Darren McFadden, RB, Dallas: Now’s the time to take a flier on the Cowboys back, as he’s eligible to come off IR and is rumored to be traded, maybe to Detroit.

Three down:

Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit: In the next five weeks, Stafford’s only favorable matchup is Jacksonville. Otherwise, he has Houston, Minnesota twice, and a bye.

Alshon Jeffery, WR, Chicago: Not only is he playing amid trade rumors, he’s facing the Vikings on the road.

Christine Michael, RB, Seattle: Unload Michael while he still has value. He plays behind a lousy offensive line, and Thomas Rawls is due back soon.
