Bringing in the business
MDEC director talks strategies for economic development

Bethany Dentler
WADSWORTH – A partner who works closely with the city to attract and retain business in the community recently explained some of her plans and actions to keep Wadsworth economically vital.
Bethany Dentler, executive director of the Medina County Economic Development Corporation, was present at the economic development committee meeting Aug. 2 and explained some of the initiatives the organization has been assisting with in Wadsworth.
Dentler said one of the most important tasks the organization conducts is visits to existing businesses.
“One company we met with – a manufacturer – is looking at a big change in their market, so we called in an expert from Team NEO who can help them to take some corrective action and get back on track,” Dentler said. “There are plenty of companies in Wadsworth that are hiring and we are working to get those placed. Another company is looking for a new space to continue to grow and we are helping them with looking for property where they can do that.”
Dentler said they are also working with a broker in an attempt to secure a company that is interested in the former brickyard property.
“We have been able to provide detailed information to the broker and he felt that our workforce development efforts could help to tip the scale as far as this company being interested,” she said. “This company is looking for 100 acres and that could be very significant for Wadsworth.”
Dentler said they have also fielded a lead for a first candidate for the downtown tax abatement program.
“We are waiting on cost estimates to figure out renovation,” she said. “This business is planning to expand its facility and have additional square footage, so we are going to see if we can help with that project.”
Dentler also added that the city’s trade show partner recently got back from a trade show where there were more than 23,000 attendees. The partner made 136 business contacts that could be helpful to the city as far as bringing more business to Wadsworth.
