Red Wings lose ground

Carl Hagelin scored twice and Phil Kessel had a goal and four assists, helping the Pittsburgh Penguins score a season-high seven goals, including four in the second period, in a 7-2 rout Saturday over the Red Wings in Detroit.

The Red Wings, who entered the game a point behind the Bruins for third place in the Atlantic Division, imperiled their chances for extending a postseason streak to 25. Meanwhile, the Penguins boosted their chances of earning a 10th straight trip to the playoffs.

Panthers 5, Lightning 2 — Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist, Roberto Luongo made 33 saves and Florida took over first place in the Atlantic Division by beating host Tampa Bay.

Wild 4, Avalanche 0 — Zach Parise scored two goals, including a power-play tally at 4:55 of the third for a 3-0 lead, and Devan Dubnyk made 29 saves to backstop Minnesota’s shutout victory over Colorado in a pivotal game between two contending teams for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

Stars 3, Sharks 2 Mattias Janmark returned to the lineup from a six-game absence due to an upper-body injury and posted the first two-goal game of his career. Antti Niemi made 34 saves against his former team to help Dallas remain tied with St. Louis for first place in the Central Division.

Blues 4, Capitals 0 — With regular starting goaltender Brian Elliott back home resting, the Blues turned to Jake Allen (32 saves) and picked up their fourth consecutive shutout, winning for the 10th time in 12 games to keep pace with Dallas.

Sabres 3, Jets 2 Sam Reinhart tied the game at 1:23 and then set up Jack Eichel’s go-ahead goal 4:07 into the third period to rally Buffalo over visiting Winnipeg.

Islanders 4, Hurricanes 3 — Cal Clutterbuck’s deflected goal with 13.8 seconds in overtime propelled visiting New York.

Rangers 5, Canadiens 2 — Chris Kreider had two goals and an assist to lead New York over host Montreal.

Ducks 4, Senators 3 — Rickard Rakell scored a power-play goal at 2:38 of overtime as Anaheim rallied from a 3-0 deficit with four straight goals to beat Ottawa.

Predators 5, Blue Jackets 1 — Shea Weber and James Neal each had a goal and an assist to lead Nashville.
