What the Legislature didn’t get done

Massachusetts lawmakers approved several key bills, sending them to the desk of Governor Charlie Baker early Monday as the formal legislative session concluded for the year. But a number of other significant proposals died as the deadline came and went. Here’s some things that failed to pass over the weekend:

■ A bill that would have restricted the noncompete agreements used by companies to prevent employees from leaving to work for a competitor or to start a rival firm

■ A proposal to impose hotel-like taxes on short-term rentals, like those booked through Airbnb and similar websites

■ Legislation that would have banned drivers from using hand-held cellphones

■ A provision that would have granted cities and towns more control over liquor licenses

■ A proposal to raise the minimum legal sales age for tobacco products from 18 to 21

■ Legislation creating a paid family and medical leave program for workers

■ A bill that would have authorized a sales tax holiday one weekend this summer
