A year ago, Jim Craig, whose stellar goaltending helped the 1980 US Olympic hockey team win the gold medal, put many of his souvenirs from that historic (and improbable) triumph on the auction block. There were no takers for the whole collection, however, so Craig wisely held onto the stuff. Now, the BU alum is selling the items individually, including the American flag that was draped around his shoulders after the United States defeated Finland in Lake Placid all those years ago. “I’m selling my ‘Miracle on Ice’ collection to ensure a healthy financial future for my children and grandchildren,’’ Craig said in a statement. “I also plan to donate proceeds from the auction to charities and causes that are near and dear to my heart.’’ The auction, being handled by Lelands.com, closes June 17. In addition to the slightly frayed flag, the collection includes the mask Craig wore during the Olympics (left), as well as his skates, jersey, goalie equipment, and stick. If you’re wondering about the gold medal that Craig and his teammates came home with, yes, it’s for sale, but it’s not cheap. The starting bid is $110,000. Craig will talk about his “Miracle on Ice’’ collection at a press event in New York Tuesday.
